The Scholar Practitioner Fellowship Programs makes it possible for mid-career business executives to make a successful transition into academia and become outstanding scholars and teachers. The program is the result of donor funding provided to help us identify and develop outstanding future faculty member who have all the requisite preparation and skills. The program is designed to facilitate the development of both teaching and research skills at the same time, as selected candidates will pursue a doctorate degree at an institution of their choice while teaching part-time for the Busch School. The Scholar Practitioner Fellowship program provides salary, benefits, and doctoral tuition reimbursement as long as the candidate makes acceptable progress in pursuing the doctoral degree.
There are several universities that have developed business doctoral programs for students who have significant prior experience and who wish to remain engaged while they pursue their degree. These schools include Case Western Reserve, Creighton, Kennesaw State and Temple, and all have week-end class meeting times that allow students the flexibility to be employed during the normal work-week.
Successful candidates for the Scholar Practitioner Fellowship Program have the following qualifications:
- Minimum of fifteen years prior successful business experience in multiple capacities;
- Strong desire to transition to an academic career;
- Potential to contribute to the University and School missions;
- Possess a master’s degree in a business discipline;
- Have a keen interest to focus research and teaching into one of our academic areas; and
- Prior experience in which teaching competence is demonstrated.
Each year, announcements will be sent to business and diocesan contacts to advertise the program. Candidates are invited to submit CV information, a mission statement, and an application letter in which the candidate’s area of academic interest is identified. Please email your application to email@example.com.
A search committee will review the candidates against the search criteria and invite promising candidates to campus for interviews with the selection committee and applicable area heads. Once selected, the committee will assist the candidate in applying to appropriate doctoral schools.
