Luke Burgis

Entrepreneur-in-Residence

Luke is Entrepreneur-in-Residence and Director of Programs & Projects at the Ciocca Center, and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Business in the Busch School.

He is the award-winning author of Wanting: The Power of Mimetic Desire in Everyday Life and co-author of Unrepeatable: Cultivating the Unique Calling of Every Person. His forthcoming book, The One and the Ninety-Nine: Coercion, Conformity, and the Courage for Truth, will be published by St. Martin's Press in 2026.

Luke founded the Ciocca Center's CEDE ("Catholic Entrepreneurship and Design Experience") project to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit and teach entrepreneurial skills in Catholic high schools. He co-teaches the course "The Vocation of Business" (ENT118) and spearheads many innovative initiatives at the university such as his organization of the NOVITATE Conference in 2023.

Luke's work is at the intersection of "Athens, Jerusalem, and Silicon Valley", as he explained in his essay The Three City Problem of Modern Life published in WIRED Magazine. All of these metaphorical cities interact in ways we must seek to understand, and they affect cultural outputs.

Luke writes regularly on his popular Substack newsletter at read.lukeburgis.com.

He lives in Washington, DC, with his wife Claire, and their daughter, Rome Frances Cecilia.
