Thor Cheston is an entrepreneur, business leader, and community builder whose career has been dedicated to creating organizations that combine operational excellence with a strong commitment to people and place. As Executive-in-Residence at the Busch School of Business, he brings more than fifteen years of experience founding, scaling, and leading successful hospitality and manufacturing ventures in the Washington, D.C. region.

Thor is the co-founder and principal of Right Proper Brewing, an award-winning craft brewery and hospitality company headquartered in Washington, D.C. Since co-founding the company in 2013, he has overseen its growth from a startup venture into a recognized regional brand with multiple locations, production facilities, and distribution operations. Under his leadership, Right Proper Brewing has earned numerous honors, including recognition from the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, Washingtonian Magazine, and national publications such as Bon Appétit and USA Today.

Throughout his career, Thor has demonstrated expertise in entrepreneurship, strategic growth, financial management, operations, organizational culture, and brand development. Prior to launching Right Proper Brewing, he held leadership roles with acclaimed restaurant concepts, including Brasserie Beck and Mussel Bar, where he managed large teams, directed operations, and helped build customer-centered organizations known for excellence and innovation.

A graduate of Georgetown University, Thor has increasingly integrated his Catholic faith into his understanding of business leadership and entrepreneurship. He believes that businesses have the opportunity and responsibility to contribute to human flourishing by creating meaningful work, fostering authentic community, and serving the common good. His personal mission is “to build enduring community through entrepreneurial enterprise—creating products and places that communicate excellence, craftsmanship, and genuine human connection, while forming workplace culture for the authentic good of individuals and human society as a whole.”

As Executive-in-Residence, Thor shares practical insights from his entrepreneurial journey with Busch School students, mentors aspiring business leaders, and contributes to the School’s mission of developing principled leaders who seek to integrate faith, reason, and business excellence in service to society.
