Why did you choose to attend the Busch School at The Catholic University of America?
When I was looking at what college to transfer to from California, I relied on the Newman Guide to help in my college search. Although it was far away from home, I chose to attend the Busch School at The Catholic University of America for its strong Catholic identity and its prime location in Washington DC.
What were some highlights of your time in the Busch School and at Catholic University?
I really enjoyed my business in developing countries class with Dr. Cannizzaro. It introduced me to the field of international development which influenced what I want to work in as a career. In this class, we had to contact and interview industry professionals so we could then create a podcast focusing on a specific country and highlight a social enterprise attempting to solve a development challenge. Cold calling many different industry professionals to ask for an interview taught me the confidence and essential networking skills needed to advance in my career. A highlight of my time at the Busch School was attending the World Bank Spring Meeting 2023 with the International Business Club.
What have you enjoyed most about working in your position?
I have really enjoyed working with the Salesian sisters and learning how IIMA works with the UN mechanisms to defend human rights around the world. It has been especially cool to see in action how the Salesian sisters around the world promote human rights education and empower the children and youth they work with to know their rights.
What advice do you have for prospective students?
CUA truly is a place where you can grow and flourish as a human person. The integration of Catholic Social Teaching into the study of business is something that I will always be grateful for as it helps to understand 1) the purpose of business and 2) the responsibilities a business has to its employees, clients and local community. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there, connect with professors and get involved on campus!
