Managing Partner of Pierpont Group; CEO of Cambridge Health
Dr. LaPier is Managing Partner of Pierpont Group and CEO of Cambridge Health. A first-generation college graduate and a lifelong educator and entrepreneur, he brings to the board a deep commitment to a model of business education grounded in the dignity of the human person and the conviction that enterprise, rightly ordered, serves human flourishing.
As a member of the Board of Visitors, Dr. LaPier supports the school’s mission; strengthened by a rich heritage of Catholic social teaching and Christian values, to educate ethical, entrepreneurial leaders who understand business as a vocation directed toward service. He shares the conviction that commerce is not merely a means of creating wealth but a calling to create value for others, pairing rigorous academic and professional preparation with the moral and spiritual formation that distinguishes a Catholic University education. His decades of leadership in entrepreneurship, higher education and healthcare, combined with his experience across academics, business and government arenas, advance the school’s pursuit of excellence as it prepares the next generation of business leaders.
Dr. LaPier was a faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School researching and teaching entrepreneurial value creation for 17 years. He is on the boards of several organizations, including as a Trustee of Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Sibley Hospital Foundation. He also serves on the corporate boards of Cambridge Health, Wellington Services, Wellington Investors, Cambridge Education, and Crossroads Educators, a 501(c)(3) organization, and previously served on the board of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). His core interests include job creation, capitalism, social entrepreneurship, free enterprise, and competitiveness initiatives in the United States.
He earned his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics, his AMP from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School, and he is a Babson College Entrepreneurial Teaching Fellow. Dr. LaPier is a Knight of the Sovereign Order of Malta, a lay religious order of the Catholic Church whose charism is to serve the poor and the sick. He and his wife, Meredith, who is a Vice Chair of CBRE, live in McLean, Virginia.
