Owen Moynihan, CatholicU '25, is a Marketing and Sports Management student from North Kingstown, Rhode Island. He accepted a job as a Business Development Representative.

Briefly describe your new job opportunity.

"I am working on the sales team at Okta who is in charge of bringing new business opportunities, usually through cold email, cold calls, networking, and social selling."

How did your Busch School and Catholic University education help you find this career path?

"The Busch School looks at me as a individual person and not just someone in a 500 person lecture hall. The Busch School prepared me more than I ever thought I would be. The classes taught me how to be a virtuous business leader and do good in the business world. The marketing department told me the importance of selling a brand and joining the sales program taught me the skills to be ready to go into the sales world with more of an advantage than anyone else. The skills that I learned in my sales programs allowed me to start immediately compared to the other sales interns who had to go through training. I did so well that I was able to accept a job before my senior year."

What activities were you involved in during undergrad?

"I've been a four-year member of the men's basketball team here at Catholic. I also am the president of the student athletic advisory committee and I am president of the sports association club. Some other things I did during my time here was becoming a Busch School Ambassador."

What were some highlights of your time at Catholic University?

"When I look back at my time at Catholic, some of the best highlights for me include winning the conference championship, my junior year in basketball. Living with my closest friends off campus and going as a team to get meals together. I also loved every opportunity that my family could have to come visit me. I was able to run a half marathon also. Living in DC has been amazing. I absolutely absolutely love food and DC has some of the best food in the country."

What advice do you have for students during their job search?

"Whatever industry that you want to go into make sure you just absolutely max out every opportunity you can. Find people who work in the industry who came before you asked them for advice. Never stop learning. You don't need to know what you want to do the second you get to college but make it a priority to try different things and see what you like!"
